Baltimore's native son, George Herman "Babe" Ruth, AKA, the "Great Bambino" and the "Sultan of Swat", was born here in 1895 and raised in the house that now houses the museum depicting his life. In 1968 the Babe’s home was almost torn down. Display of newspaper clips tell how the house saved, and opened to the public in 1974 as a baseball shrine to the legendary slugger. The museum stocked with memorabilia from the American icon's fabled career and exhibits honoring the home town Orioles who play just a baseball throw away at the city's modern icon reflective of the game's historic past, Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The Sports Legends Museum honors the legacy of Baltimore's great sports tradition with exhibits featuring legendary local athletes such a the Baltimore Colts, Johnny Unitas and other great athletes and historical moments in Baltimore's storied athletic past. Open: April - October: Daily 10am-6pm (7:30pm on baseball game days) November - March: Tues-Sun 10am-5pm (8pm on football game days). Closed New Years, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Museum members are admitted free.
