The Maryland Zoo (formerly The Baltimore Zoo) is home to over 2,000 animals.  It is the  third oldest zoological park in the United States, having opened in 1876. Renovation projects in the 1990s, expended and modernized the facility. The zoo is divided into three regions; Polar Bear Watch, home to famous polar bears Magnet and Alaska, as well as Ravens, Snowy Owls, and Arctic Foxes; Children's Zoo where visitors can watch otters swim over their heads, jump on lily pads, explore a cave, or climb into giant bird nests. In the farmyard, a variety of rare domestic breeds can be touched and African Journey the largest area of the zoo, which displays elephants, white rhinoceros, giraffes, zebras, and antelope, as well as the three African big cats. Hours: Sunday - Thursday - 10:00AM - 4:30PM, Friday & Saturday: March - June: 10:00AM - 4:30PM, Memorial Day - Labor Day: 10:00AM - 6:00PM, September - December: 10:00AM - 4:30PM, CLOSED: Thanksgiving, December 25, January & February and the second Friday in June.
